Irish Literature
In Ireland, during many centuries we know that there were many authors who made Irish history. In fact, many authors tried to write about history, culture, family relationships, society and personal events. The ten novelists and poets most popular in Ireland were/are:
Moreover, some writers of the 19th century and of the 20th century were awarded the Nobel Prize for literature. The first Irish writer who received the Nobel Prize was William Butler Yeats in 1923. In fact, he was considered as one of the best poet and playwright. Indeed, his singular work was worth the Nobel Prize. In fact, the Nobel committee qualified his work as “ always inspired poetry, the highly artistic shape of which expresses the spirit of a whole nation.” .
The second famous Irish author who received the Nobel Prize was George Bernard Shaw. In fact, George Bernard Shaw received the Nobel Prize in 1925, two years after William Butler Yeats. George Bernard Shaw was a nonconformist. Therefore, he wrote numerous stories in which he criticized social conformity which he considers as ridiculous. His last work about this subject was rewarded by the Nobel Prize like William Butler Yeats two years before.
Samuel Beckett was the third Irish writer who obtained the Nobel Prize in 1969 but he considered that as a “disaster” as he said. In fact, Beckett didn’t consider the Nobel Prize as something which he got for his talent but for his position in t society. In fact, he was convinced that this kind of award was for the well-off rather than the talented. But he was not the only writer to receive this prize.
Finally, Seamus Heaney is the fourth Irish writer to receive the Nobel Prize in 1995. In fact, his work “The Cure At Troy” then previously published in 1990 is the work which qualified him for the Nobel Prize. Moreover, this work is qualified as “Characterized by his operatic beauty and its ethical depth which highlights the miracles of the everyday life (daily paper) and the alive past”
To conclude this presentation, we can say that Irish literature is a literature recognized in the English-speaking world and in the whole world . Irish literature is recognized thanks to different prizes like the Books of Ireland for example. But, here, we talked mostly about the Nobel Prize which had been awarded to four famous writers . They were mostly rewarded thanks to they work about society.
